Description The natural setting is breathtaking for this private bed and breakfast guest cottage deep in Salt Creek Canyon at the foot of Case Mountain. Fitting snugly into the the hillside, the Cottage has an open floor plan and was designed and built in 1985 as a special home for Elsah's Grandma. Grandma's favorite color of blue is found in the dishes, carpets, linens and furniture. A panoramic half-circle window frames the Sierra Nevada Foothills and meadow outside, and provides a magnificent framing for the star-studded night sky and the full moon rise from behind the mountains across the canyon. (The cottage underwent a major rennovation in the winter of 2006, reinventing the bathroom with new tile and fixtures. The cottage has new carpet and paint, so Grandma's blue has receded just a bit. The photos below have not been updated yet, new photos will come soon. I am embarrassed to say, still now in the Spring of 2008, that new photos wil be coming soon, as soon as I get my digital camera working with my brain!)
The outside deck is made from the circular bottom of a large redwood wine vat. A shade umbrella and table with chairs provide an outdoor living space. There is a queen-size bed, with down comforter in the bedroom area and a futon couch in the living room which opens to a full-size bed. Extra bed linens, pillows and blankets are found in a cedar chest in the bedroom. The bathroom has a tiled step down shower which also doubles as a sit down bath tub. A TV with DVD, equipped with satellite TV, and a stereo with a CD player is also found in the living room. A distinctive library of books and magazines are available for thoughtful browsing. Hiking and mountain biking is welcomed nearby on the BLM land at Case Mountain at a few yards from the driveway entrance to the cottage. Plans are in the works to add internet connection via satellite, as only dial up is available in these neck of the woods.
The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, including microwave, gas stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, and all dishes and cooking utensils. Breakfast food offered includes fresh fruit, muffins or assorted bread, eggs for you to prepare and juice. Freshly ground French roast coffee, both regular and decaf, is available along with a wide assortment of herbal teas. There is an outside flower and herb bed at the level of the kitchen window at the sink. Smoking is discouraged and is allowed on the outside deck only. Iron and ironing board, flashlight, board games, bathing supplies, and other amenities are offered for guests. Please, no pets. The resident cats do not go into the cottage so it is dander free for guests with allergies. The cooling system for summer months is a window air conditioner which keeps the cottage cool and comfortable. The cottage has a telephone that allows for local calls or long distance calls with calling card only. Only ATT (formerly Cingular) cell phones work in this area.
